XP Repair

When I try to perform a Windows XP repair using the original XP Professional
CD, I get an error message that the system on the PC is newer that on the
disk and so I cannot reinstall or repair. Can I uninstall the service packs,
perform the repair, then reinstall the packs? This is my third time posting
this question and am unable to find either my question or any answers within
this forum.

You could uninstall the service packs - depending on how long they ahve been
there and what has been deleted - I would guess anyway. The other option is
to make a slipstreamed CD and use it for your repair.

I expect that means that you have SP2 installed, and that your CD does not
contain SP2. (I vaguely recall that a non-SP1 CD would do a repair
installation onto a machine with SP1 installed, but I'm not certain about
that.)

One option would be to uninstall SP2.

A better option would be to prepare a version of the XP CD with SP2
slipstreamed onto it.

Autostreamer (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=188337) is
supposed to be the easiest way to do this.

I've used a more complex method:

Good luck.

Thanks to both Ron and Bob your answers...I do remember doing a repair after
the SP1 was installed so it must be the SP2 that's preventing me. I will try
the slipstreamed method and if that doesn't work, I'll be back! Thanks again
for the suggestions and the "good luck."
