Is a "repair" possible as discussed in this forum if as in this case both the
"system" and "system32" folders and their contents have been deleted from the
"Windows" folder?

I'm anxious to avoid reformatting the HD and reloading XP [with all the
associated updates], the other applications and most importantly, the data...

How did you do that?
It should work, try it.

You can certainly do a repair install, and it should replace all of the
Windows files that were in those folders, but it wouldn't replace files that
programs had put there, so you'd have to reinstall those programs to get
them working correctly again.

Thanks for your response...I intend to attempt a "Repair Install" per your
website at the first opportunity and if timely, I'll report back here...

Understand your reply regarding the "files that programs had put there" with
reference to the "system/system32" folders and their contents...

Thanks for replying.

Hi Guys, sorry to "hijack" this thread...

Question, my XP Home is giving me errors on startup
"windows\system32\config\system" file is missing or corrupt. After
researching this, I am trying to do a Repair. However, my SONY Vaio came
with no XP Home disk. I had recently purchased a Win XP Pro disk to upgrade
anyways. My question is can I do the Repair as stated below, but using my
new XP Pro disk to upgrade it.

Hopefully this makes sense! Thanks

Steph
