XP Repair install

Trying to do an XP repair install,
when I get to the screen after accepting the license this
is what is in the box below the choices
"Unknown Disk"
<there is no disk in this drive>
And I only have a choice to install, delete partition or
quit.
Does anyone know why I can't perform the XP Repair
install?
Thanks

How are you doing the repair exactly? Sounds like the file system
identifier on the disk is bad. Boot off the CD, Enter for a new install, F8
for the EULA and R when it finds the C:\Windows directory would be an
inplace upgrade. Is that how youre installing?

Without hardware information people here can only guess. Does the BIOS
see the hardrive?
