xp repair install keeps rebooting

Hi all,

This is confusing, couldn't install xp sp2, kept saying there was a registry
error. After monkeying with it for a long time I decided to to a repair
install of xp and start over. Unfortunately I don't have adequate backup, so
I need my files.

I started the repair install, it told me sisagp.sys wasn't found, I skipped
the step, it asked for the lic, I placed it in, the computer rebooted and
went back to the sisagp.sys is not found. So I located it, said okay, then
it told me there was no file association for rundll and that I should use the
control panel (obviously can't during install), I had to cancel those
warnings, again placed in the lic, and again it rebooted, have gone through
this process MANY times now, no change. Anyone have any ideas?

Oh yeah, this is a laptop so I can't even pull the drive and connect it to
another computer or anything.

You *can* pull the laptop drive and slave it to another machine if you
have a laptop drive-to-IDE adapter or external laptop drive case. The
kinds of errors you're getting usually indicate some sort of hardware
problem. If the problem is just with Windows, you can also retrieve the
data by booting with Knoppix, a Bart's PE, or ERD Commander.

You know your own skill level best - if what I've written above doesn't
sound familiar, just take the laptop to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA) and have them retrieve the
data and diagnose the machine for you. There is no shame in doing this.

Not to help you with your problem, (unfortunately), but as a
comment on your "nick";

Years ago, I saw a contest between a Chinese gentleman who
was an expert on the abacus (you misspelled it, perhaps
deliberately ? )

and someone with a calculator, both given a LONG list of #s
to add.

The guy with the abacus WON!

I mean, his fingers were FLYING.

As Paul Harvey says, "Progress isn't always."

Good luck!

This is OT. I see you've got quite carried away with a number of posts
today. Perhaps you should take a break or check the meds.
