I found the anwser to this but have lost it.

When doing a XP Home repair it hangs at around 34 mins, seems also at the
same time stuck with my HP USB scanner.

The MS fix that I found was to do with a USB driver and that you had to
make a New install CD with this updated driver..

Any one have a clue on what I am on about

Thanks

Suggest you do the repair with minimal peripherals attached, then
install/attach the rest later.

Normally one turns USB (or whatever is causing it - if in doubt everything but video, hard drive, and keyboard) off in the BIOS. Install Windows, reenable in BIOS, then install the drivers that you need.

Unlike 98, XP is really stupid with hardware and relies on the BIOS (98 thinks it smarter than any bios). Any hardware smarts is in setup.

I'll second that! I've taken hard drives with 98 installed on them and put
them in a totally different systems, and 98 would detect all the hardware
changes and adapt to them.
Don't try that with XP... nothing short of a repair install will work. And,
as this guy is pointing out, those don't always go well either.

Thanks the first link was what I was after, but is not what I thought it was
as my problem is only with a Repair and happens every time, at about the
same time I do get a Error report about the HP USB Scanner..

Most of the time I can get past it by rebooting, it not a complete hang as
the system show its still working but with the time stuck at 34mins.

MS doesn't make drivers, go to the scanner makers web site. Your best bet is
to disconnect the scanner and other attached hardware for the repair
install.

They make the USB Drivers..

I will have to remove the Software for the HP not the hardware, plus its
using the latest Driver from the HP site, HP are well known for Not supporting
there drivers..

Been there done that..

There isn't any html in David's post anyway, and it shows up just fine
in a decent newsreader. It's mime encoded, but mime ain't a crime. ;-)

May I recommend you write your answers at the top, not the bottom, of
postings. It's a pain to scroll down to see the answers.

The answer still applies whether it's a repair or install as the repair
mechanism is just an install with some bits skipped. Have you tried the
suggestion?

One of your other posts seems to imply you have to repair your system
somewhat frequently - "Most of the time I can get past it by rebooting",
my assumption here being the repair completed successfully as you got
past it. If you are frequently having to repair windows, perhaps the
problem lies in faulty hardware.

Warmest Regards,

Brian

No its Screwed up Software..

Rebooting does not always work, about 50% of the time is does.

My Hardware is 100% plus the Install is also 100%.
