XP removal

I need assistance. I have xp home on my machine twice.
The first version is not working and so I want to remove
it compeletely and free up space. Can I safely remove
the files and doc and settings while in the xp that
works. The corrupted version will no longer let me use
add/remove function to even remove programmes and so I
have everything twice, uising clone hunter I found about
18 000 files that are duplicated and now am starting to
run out of space. Any help will be much appreciated as I
am quite lost and not terribly computer literate. Thank
you.

Yes, you can, just make sure you have the right set. Easiest way to resolve
this problem is to boot into the working installation and delete all system
folders/files associated with the non-working one. Then start/run msconfig
and go to the boot.ini tab and click on "check all boot paths" to remove the
invalid entry.
