XP reinstalls drivers for USB devices each time it sees them

I have a lab of 30 computers running Windows XP and all of them will
prompt you to reinstall drivers for any USB device when you plug it
it.

This happens with USB key drives, keyboards, mice as well as other
more obscure USB devices.

If I plug something in, it detects it, asks me to install drivers, I
have to click through the prompts - eventually sees it....if I remove
it and plug it right back in it goes through the same thing again
instead of automatically seeing it.

Its happenening on all 30 of these (Dell Optiplex GX620) machines and
its driving me crazy.

anyone have any suggestions?

You could try unplugging all USB devices, delete all in the 'Universal
Serial Bus controllers' section of device manager, then reboot. Windows
should recognise the Plug and Play controller devices and re-install the
drivers for them.
