XP Reinstall failure

I am trying to reinstall XP Pro on my laptop. During the
install (about 20 min. into process) there was a
bluescreen failure. Restarting resumes the setup 20 min.
into the process which again fails. Removing the CD does
not force a boot back to the hard drive and the original
XP install, it also resumes setup and subsequently fails
at teh same point. Removing all power and restart does
not help. Is there anyway to force the bootable XP Pro CD
back to the original menu to restart or is there a way to
cancel the re-install process. Any help is very much
appreciated.

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before repairing XP.
If your laptop is mounted in a docking station, undock it.

Most Notebook PCs from reputable brand names have a Restore CD [or set of CDs]; in fact I've not seen one without a set

Did you get one of these

Even if it is a Win 98 set go with it, your Notebook will be up and running in a fraction of the time it takes to do a full install of a retail CD

The restore process will also wipe the drive and you'll loose all information stored there

The only time I have seen the BSOD during Windows Xp Setup is when someone has used a copied CD and not the Microsoft original.
