I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall WinXP on my computer (from a partition - set up from the factory - Hewlet Packard, so it isnt from a CD instalation) Everything went along fine, but I keep having the 'Register Your Computer' icon pop up, which would be fine, but the window wont load, it just sits there empty. ( I have left it sitting for over 30 min. to see if it would ever load, but it does not)

So I run %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /
From the comand line and it brings up the window fine and says
'Windows product registration
"Windows is already registered, click ok to exit

So according to that it is taken care of, but why does it keep popping up telling me to do it? I'm just worried that its going to stop working on me and I will have to reformat again and have to reinstall everything again.

Any advice? Anyone know if its going to stop working on me?

Thanks in advance!

Run Start - Run - MSConfig and look on the startup page for a line
running wpabaln.exe (he WPA Balloon reminder). If there, uncheck it

Hi Ale
Thank you for your reply, I just ran msconfig and it was not listed in the start up section.. is there anything else I can/should do?
Thanks so much for your help!

In that case it is being loaded as a consequence of an entry in the
registry : I don't have an unactivated system around just now to check.
But probably just looking for that wpabaln.exe and renaming to a
different extension would do. You would have to do it first on the
copy in windows\system32\dllcache and then on the one in
windows\system32. And ignore any requests to put in the CD because a
file has been removed.
