XP reformatting error

I tried to reformat my hard drive using the Win XP disk,
and got this error:

Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be
damaged. Make sure the device is switched on and
properly attached to the computer. If it is a scsi disk,
make sure your scsi devices are properly terminated.
Consult your computer manual or scsi adapter
documentation for assistance.

Download a diagnostic utility from the hard drive mftr. You will make a
bootable floppy. Boot with it and do a thorough test. If you get any
errors, replace the drive.
