XP reacting very slow

Couple days ago, I did a format and install of XP home, installed all
updates and SP2. AVG with latest updates, Zone Alarm.

Ran AVG just now, no problems found. Ran Spybot, Ad-Aware se, EWIDO
found a couple of tracking cookies which I deleted.

Just now did a SEARCH for START. Found 4 START folders. I clicked on
the top folder, viewed it, than clicked BACK to be able to view 2nd
folder. It took about 15 seconds to go back. Viewed 3rd and 4th
folder, each time I clicked BACK, it would take about 15 seconds to respond.

Going thru EXPLORER.EXE files, response in immediate.

Any ideas what causes the delayed response.

Did you run Disk CleanUp and then Disk Defragmenter. This helps.

Have you looked at the System and Application logs for Error and Warning
Reports? If any are there please post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the
meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and
Description are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hey bently
Might have already fixed the problem after reading gerry's post but just in
case running zone alarm and AVG at the same time may be causing issues.
Can't remember but if zone alarm has its own virus scanner just shutdown AVG
and use as a backup. See if it makes any difference.

Using CCleaner, so wasn't much to cleanup, I did run Disk CleanUp and
then Disk Defragmenter.
AND SpyBot, Ad-Aware, Ewido, and MS AntiSpy also. Just found a couple

Using FREE ZoneAlarm version:6.1.737.000 which does not have AntiVirus,
just FireWall only. ( i think?)

Do NOT want to disable AVG.
