XP re-install on newer laptop

I am going to a newer laoptop with a larger HD and I want to install my current in use copy of XP on it. What are the steps I need to follow, since XP does querry hardware.

XP will install just fine. Your problem will be with activation as you
cannot activate XP on the second laptop because it was already activated on
the first one. May take a phone call to Microsoft but how do you convince
them the first laptop no longer has Windows installed?
