XP profiles suddenly <User.Computername> instead of just <User>

After solving some problems with the machine not starting (disk check on
another machine + taking ownership of files), when I now logon to this
machine I'm logged in with a new profile User.ComputerName wich is not
right, this way the users can't access their old profiles. I'm not sure why
this happens but if I'm not mistaken there's a registry setting out there
wich will undo this. Anyone know this registry setting or maybe other
solution to this problem ?

TIA,
Jurjen.

For standalone Windows XP systems, this might help:

How to rename or move a User Profile folder?

Read the caveats mentioned.
