I am in the process of converting users from Windows 2000 to Windows XP and
have up to this point backed up then deleted their old 2000 profile.
I then log them in on a XP machine and allow windows to recreate a new
profile (XP). I am doing this because in the past I was told that if a 2000
user logs onto an XP machine their profile will become corrupt.

Can anyone confirm this because I am slowly convincing myself that this is
not really the case and it would save me shed loads of time?

Many Thanks

Would help to know if:
Roaming or Local Profiles?
2000, 2003, or other Server Technology?

We use Roaming profiles and the server spec is Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195

You should read this article from Big Brother MS. Check under the
heading "Logon Optimization in Windows XP"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/mngwinxp.mspx

· In a mixed environment, use Windows XP .adm files to administer
your GPOs.
· Try to apply the same policy settings to both Windows XP and
Windows 2000 to allow roaming users to have a consistent experience.
· Test interoperability of the various settings before deployment.
· Only configure policy settings on client machines using GPOs. Do
not try to create these registry values by other methods.

Idealy, if you are running all XP machines as clients, you should push
for 2003 for your server. If you are using both 2000 and XP clients you
need this article and it's contents for your management arsenal.
