I have tried to do the run - cmd - enter and then
shutdown-a . I get the message that this is not
recognized as an internal or external command. Better
late than never ,I have installed the xp firewall and
downloaded all the critical updates.,however I still have
the shutting down every 20 minutes or so.Blaster worm has
been cleared thanks to avg but the lovesan worm is still
in some files that cannot be cleared. Please
help ..Thanks, Ian

Hi,

No need to run cmd first, just start/run

shutdown -a

Note that there is a space in there before -a.

Thanks that seemed to do something! I am not sure what
but the dos screen just flashed on and off? is that it?
thanks

Hi! I've tried that and the black dos screen flashed on
and off! I still have the problem in fact I can barely
hae time to type a note ,it's shutting down
again...Please anything else I can try?

Hi,

Start/run services.msc, scroll down to Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and
double-click it. Go to the recovery tab, set the first failure line to "take
no action". This should allow you to stay running and clean the virus.

You need the patch described here to protect against it:

MS03-039: A Buffer Overrun in RPCSS Could Allow an Attacker to Run Malicious
Programs

Problem is, you needed to install the patch BEFORE you got infected to avoid
it.
