XP Professional and other Windows

Greetings.

I have a small network in the office, wired on Ethernet
and using workgroups. Recently the secretary's WinXP Home
Edition computer has been replaced with a Win XP
Professional Edition computer.

Everyhting installed fine, until the older windoes (98 and
ME) try to see the new computer in the workgroup. The new
computer's icon IS present, but trying to connect to it
results in an Error Message stating that the designated
computer DOES NOT EXIST in the network.

I had previously been able to make XP Home compatible with
older windows using an age-old protocol, the NETBEUI.
However, even after re-installing the NetBeui as described
in Microsoft's help pages, the older windows still cannot
connect to the XP Professional, while XP Pro CAN surf over
all other comps and network ressources.

If anyone could help me solve this little incompatibility
it would be most apreciated. And yes, I know that using
multi-edtion windows ona network ain't recomended, but I
work for a boss who HATES replacing computers, so fat
chance he'll buy XP PRO for every computer on the network.

Thanks in advance
Jay

Is the embedded XP firewall turned on on the XP Pro's network connection? On
the network properties page click the advanced tab and make sure the
firewall is not enabled (the check box should not be checked).

Also make sure NetBEUI is installed on the XP Pro computer. You may also
need to setup users for each person trying to connect to the PC.
