I want to install on a new computer XP but I have only this old liecense.
During the installation I get a bluescreen at the step where pci.sys is
loaded.

Now I take a new XP prof CD and the installation was not a problem. However
the product key from the old CD dosen't work with that installation.

What can I do?

Thanks for your answers!!!

If the trouble you are having is with a retail version of XP Pro, you
may telephone Microsoft for activation help:

If you are trying to install a OEM version of XP Pro on a new
computer, it will not work.

it's not a OEM version! It's a fullversion bought in 2002.
I think the problem is the pci.sys driver on the old CD and that the product
key from the old XP version doesn't fit with the other CD...

Hello Stephan:

If your XP Pro version was store purchased back in 2002, it's termed a
"Retail" version and it may or may not predate Service Pack 2.

You may wish to "slipstream" the requisite drivers as well as include
Service Pack 3 by using a utility dedicated to that purpose. The
process needs to be executed entirely from a different working system.

Google "XP slipstream" to see how much or little you wish for your
hardware.

Thank you. This sounds very good!

Of course it will, it may be a violation of the EULA but it'll work just
fine.

That will depend on whether the CD is made for the specific hardware it
was used on (the norm) or was a copy with a generic XP CD. OEMs are
always somehow tied to the computer they were first install on and can't
be activated for anything else.

HTH,

True, I was going on the assumption the OP had a generic OEM disk as he
failed to provide sufficient info.
