XP problems running IE6

Can anyone help?

My Internet Explorer 6 is not working. Basically every link I type,
bootmark I click or directs me to the same page and about:blank
appears in the address bar. I have installed a new browser, but need
to use IE as I am doing some Web Programming with VB.NET. I have tried
to uninstall and re-install IE but this does not work.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
