I have a workgroup with 3 computers, 1 XP Pro and 2 Win 2K. It is a wired
hub. Everything works fine. I can share files and everybody can see
everything.

I have a new computer that I want to add to the network. The new machine
came preconfigured with XP Home. The new machine can see all the existing
computers, files, printers, etc. It is a pain that the XP Home machine
cannot save the credentials for the other machines, but it isn't a big
enough problem to make me go and buy another copy of XP Pro and upgrade.
The problem comes when I try to see the XP Home machine from the other
computers. If I look at the workgroup, I can see that the new machine is
there, but when I try to access files, etc from the XP Pro machine, I get a
logon screen where there is no option to connect as anything other than
"guest". From the win2K machines, I get a logon screen, but the ID/password
combinations established on the new machine do not work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Never mind. I figured out that the way sharing was set up on the Home
machine was the problem.

Easiest thing to do is have the same logon and password on each machine.
When you go to do things over the network, it makes it a hell of a lot
easier. It isn't, of course, the most safe method if that is a network at
work.
