XP Pro will not boot

XP Pro will not fully boot (on another household
computer.) Goes through various driver/file loadings and
then hangs at what would be the "Windows XP" opening
screen which usually contains the "users names". (No user
names appear and screen freezes)
1/ Have tried booting from XP CD. No help
2/ Have tried booting in safe mode and safe mode with
command prompt. Ends up freezing at same XP opening
screen.
3/ Have tried using Recovery Console but cannot get past
password. Don't recall ever setting up an Administrator
password at XP install.

Any help just getting booted will be appreciated, then
can try to track down virus or other problem.
Thanks...Rwinger

The setup process automatically creates passwords for all accounts. They are usually removed after setup however. Have you tried using the RC to get the password? Email me at (e-mail address removed) and I can send you the instructions. You could try to reintall XP. But, of course you would lost all your data.

That is not the case with XP Pro, which prompts for a password during
install,
which same is the initial password of the Administrator account.
