XP PRO wont boot

[Rwinger]

XP PRO won't boot past Windows user group screen.
Freezes at that screen.
I've tried booting from XP CD..tried booting in safe mode
and safe mode with command prompt. No luck.
Have tried using previous good configuration..no luck
I tried emergency boot from floppy..still no luck
No problems at all for past 16 months with XP PRO, no
major hardware changes, just routine home use.
Any suggestions

Have you tried running a Repair Install? There is info on doing so here
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm Just remember to enable your
Firewall before you go on line if you run a Repair Install so unplug from
the internet while running Repair Install, enable Firewall, then reconnect
to internet and go to the Windows Update Site and reinstall SP1a and
Critical Updates. The Welchia and Blaster worms can easily attach an
unpatched system.
