I turned my computer on this morning and after POST screen I got just a black
screen with flashing cursor in top left corner. Restared and went into BIOS.
Enabled "boot from cd", inserted cd, and saved changes.

Now after POST screen cd drive starts to go but stops. Still the same black
screen.

HELP PLEASE!! Thanks in advance.

Does the BIOS detect the presence of the hard drive and CD drive? If
not, contact the computer manufacturer to determine what diagnostic
tools would be best suited to determining the source of your particular
hardware failure.

POST finds both the Fixed disk and the cd drive

Both drives are recognized in BIOS.
I should also add that this machine is a laptop that is configured for a
network. Will "boot from network" work if I connect to LAN?

Hi steveb,

Check your CPU Fan speed and make sure it is working.

Also what happens when you try booting from a bootable Floppy Disk. Does
it boot up? If no, replace your Graphics Card.

Hi steveb,

Do you have the Windows XP CD Upgrade or Full Version, which is a
bootable CD? Does it boot and show a display? If not, replace the Graphics
Card.

http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm You need to try and boot from a boot
floppy. That will boot you if boot.ini file is corrupt. I know you said you
didn't have a floppy, get one and hook it up.

Thanx for the help, but I got it to work.

Afetr trying everything I did the obvious last (restore default settings)
obviously a hardware installation had changed settings in BIOS.
