XP-Pro / Vista Dual Boot Problem

Okay, for the last 3 1/2 months I have been running XP-Pro on my primary
partition and Vista-Beta on my secondary. I have been able to dual boot
between OS's without any problem whatsoever.

Yesterday I upgraded Vista-Beta to the Vista-RC1. After upgrading, I could
boot into Vista-RC1 without any problem, but when I tried to boot into
XP-Pro, it told me that my "Earlier Version" installation was corrupt and I
needed to reinstall.

I reboot with my XP-Pro disc and went to the repair console and did the
FIXBOOT, which now allows me to boot into XP-Pro without any problems, but
now I don't even get the dual boot menu, so I can't get into Vista-RC1.

Has anyone else run into this problem, and if so how were you able to
correct it.

Thanks,

Bryan

Did you per chance do a FIXMBR also. If you did, you should run
VistaBootPro and restore the Vista MBR. Also it would help if you were
clear. You say FIXBOOT but don't say which drive and you say primary and
secondary partition, do you mean primary and extended/logical on the same
drive?

You do need the Vista MBR
The ntldr, ntdetect.com and boot.ini on the same drive with the Vista boot
file
The Vista boot file partition as the system partition (first in boot
priority and active)

From a post from Bones below

This should be what you are looking for:

Note though that some of the commands have changed in RC1 for instance where
you type -set is now /set

I did upgrad from Licensed XP Professional to RC1 Vista -
Vista now says my Beta 2007 Sofware needs activation so I have no Office
2007 able to run.
It puts Activation message to screen and starts to valid fron Internet and
aborts.

Sounds like same thing. It also tells me I have altered my hardware which I
havent.

Would the below Vista MBR help this problem do you think?

Sorry, your MBR is fine. You could try to uninstall Office and then
reinstall it. Report your problem to Microsoft via the reporting tools on
the desktop. I personally don't use the upgrade because of the problems
that always seem to happen but this is why they have pre-releases

Fixboot only runs on the first drive in the system because there is only one
boot sector regardless of how many physical drives are actually in the machine

Not correct.

Quote from Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out
Fixboot Writes a new partition boot sector onto the partition you specify

it writes to the system partition by default if you don't specify.
