Don't blame that on Vista. I have 2 hard drives in my computer. The C drive has XP Pro on it and the D drive has Vista RC1 on it. I have no problems dual booting and can boot to either OS. Lots of other people have no problem with dual booting XP and Vista RC1. The problem is something that you did or is peculiar to your hardware.

I have a hard time following your info, but you need to find out which drive
the Vista boot loader is installed on and make that the system drive. (Hard
drive first in boot priority, and on that drive the partition with the
bootloader as the active partition. You then need to copy the ntldr
ntdetect.com and boot.ini files from where they are installed onto the same
drive with the Vista bootloader. You should then use VistaBootPro or
EasyBCD and set up a legacy operating system. At this point when you boot
up you should get the bootloader menu, then selecting the legacy option be
transferred to the boot.ini menu. You should edit the boot.ini to have the
proper entry for your xp system.
