XP Pro Upgrade gone awry

Trying to do an upgrade from XP Home to Pro. The install lags then restarts
and does this over and over. I think the disk is scratched too bad, or ??.
So, how to get it to stop and go back to my XP Home installation which was
working just fine. Am I hosed??

Actually thier is no "upgrade" from xp home to xp pro,the upgrade is for
older windows OS.To install pro from home,simply install xp pro cd,boot to
xp cd,select install xp,new copy,delete the partition (home),create
one,then xp
formats & does a clean installation..Thiers no other way.....

02befree, ignore Andrew E., our resident troll. He has posted this nonsense
here multiple times, Each time, he gets corrected by multiple people, and
each time he simply ignores the corrections, and goes on to repost the same
same nonsense again the next time.

In fact, not only *can* you upgrade from XP Home to Professional, it's the
easiest and most-likely successful of all possible upgrades, since so little
has to be changed. But of course if your CD is damaged, it won't work.

What to do now? I'm not sure where you are in the installation, but you may
have reached a point where you can no longer go back, and you might have to
reinstall XP Home cleanly.

Actually there have been times in my experience where an upgrade from XP Home
to XP Pro has proven difficult at best...However not impossible. These
difficulties have usually been from software that was originally written
specifically for home (Back in the early days) but did not have the proper
coding for Pro.

Now this issue has not cropped up in newer machines with newer software and
Mr. Blake is, for the most part accurate. One of the things I would do is
insure that your hardware meets the quals for XP pro and not just Home...This
is a rare issue that currently doers not exist but was around in the
beginning of XP...Both Home and Pro had ever slight different
requirements....Then replace the cd-drive with another one (if you have one)
and attempt it again. While you are doing this inspect the cd carefully for
any scratches or damage...If there is damage contact Microsoft and obtain a
replacement cd.

What software is that? Except for extra features (mostly regarding security
and networking) in Professional, the two are identical. I'm not aware of any
software that is, or *can* be, written specifically for Home, but does "not

This is completely wrong. There are *no* differences in the hardware
requirements for the two.

RAM was slightly different in the early stages of XP as was the amount of
harddrive space. The software inparticular was networking software and some
security software such as Zone Alarm...Now please save your arrogance for
someone else and not someone who has done this kind of thing for ten years...
