XP Pro strange after security update

Today I installed a Windows XP Security update KB887742. Ever since,
things have been acting strange on my system, mostly with browser use and
internet access. I am on cable and FoxFire was having much difficulty
accessing webpages. I finally uninstalled it and tried Internet Explorer
which works better, but still has some dodgy issues such as accessing some
sites. Does anyone know of any problems with this last update? Also, on
reboot, my Num Lock keylight comes on as usual, then turns off when Windows
loads and I have to manually turn it back on. I've never had this happen
before this update. I'm ready to uninstall this last update, any info is
greatly appreciated.

My antivirus program (BitDefender) spat the dummy, DoctorWatson crashed
followed closely by |Explorer, I have also had a BSOD after a fresh
restart.

I have removed this "fix" and will await the fix for the fix

My advice, for what it's worth, is don't touch this "fix"!

My browsers just seem to hang. Internet Explorer gives me "the page cannot
be found" after I click on the back button (I was just at that previous
page). Firefox just hangs and gives me a blank page. I uninstalled the
fix and it still is doing this. I am at a loss. I may just have to bite
the dust and reinstall Windows. <sigh> I'm using Avast for Antivirus and
ZoneAlarm Pro for firewall.

I discovered what the problem is, I think. It appears that the newest
version of Avast Antivirus includes a new feature called Web Shield. I
think that was hanging my internet browsing. I turned the Web Shield off
and I was able to access pages as I used to. Avast also updated yesterday.
So, I guess it's time to email Avast about their problem.
