XP Pro Shutdown "hang'

XP Pro on new HP dx2000 desktop started up OK... now hangs
on "Windows is shutting down". I've tried the XP
troubleshooter to no avail...and have searched the
web "far & wide". Have seen several references to hang
on "Saving windows files" which appears right
before "Windows is shutting down" and that computer
restarts instead of shutting down but haven't found
anything on my problem. Restart works fine! To get
complete shutdown have to hold the start button the
requisite 4 seconds. The "On" led on the front panel goes
out but the last screen remains. Anybody had this?

Seems very odd that your LED goes out, but system remains
up. I'm pretty sure that your issue lies in the versions
of system board resource support files - On a newly
purchased system bd, a CD will have these files, on your
HP, I'd hope that sys-bd drivers could be found on HP.com.

I don't think you have a true Windows OS problem - because
each time you hold the button to power off, Windows has
already removed it's flag which would indicate when a
system was shut down improperly -

good luck, hth
