XP Pro - Running Slow

When the system was upgraded from W98SE to XP Pro, it was working fine.
Added my required software, still running fine. Nothing changed, no new
software.
But after about 10 days the system slowed down. Booting takes about
15-20 minutes.

Have scanned for Virus, spyware etc. Nothing.

Anyone any ideas what it could be?

Additional information:
Something I had not been made aware of was that SP1 had been added just
prior to the slowing down of the system.

Any suggestions what the next step might be?
