xp pro repair install doesn't work..

now what?

[scenario]

on or about sept 20th this year.. we got smacked with a good storm..
several roving power outages resulted over the next couple of days.
not good. while at work the computer was taking quite a
beating. :O( at any rate.. my computer at the time with a asus p4p800s
se, 2gig mem, intel 2.4gig chip, gigabyte gv-n52128d video died..

couldn't find a direct replacement for the mobo so i had to totally
rebuild the system.. now pushing an AMD 64 3.0g chip, 4 gigs mem, asus
m3a mobo with a nvidia gforce 7100 vid card. was running 3 ide maxtor
drives on the old system but opted this time to push 3 sata 1tb drives
w/ a 160gb sata primary.

[end scenario]

after reading several articles on the subject of repair install.. i
opted to image the ide primary drive before beginning down the path of
repair and good thought for having done so. here's why. i
disconnected all the drives on the new system and plugged my cd[slave]
and ide[master] drives up and used the slipstreamed xp2 cd i was able
to create to do the repair install. all went/goes well until i reboot
to the primary ide.. i still get the stop 07e error.

i reconnected everything and slaved the primary ide to the system and
restored the image.. after this i went back to the cd[slave]
ide[master] and booted off a winternals erd 2005 cd and blew out the
registry key: hkey_local_machine and reextracted hal.dll to the drive.
then i proceeded with the xp repair install. this time i got into
windows but the primary logon account shadowed. in other words, the
primary logon: group/mix2plix accepted the password but generated an
account setting of mix2plix/group. not my desktop settings at all..
all new. which leaves me unable to access microsoft outlooks email
accounts.. heck it wont even let me run outlook for that matter
because all of the services are not loading under this presumed
profile.

any ideas on how to proceed? in essence the short scenario is.. old
system died.. moved xp pro hd to new system, repair install didn't
work as advertised. :O) help.

Old PC was based on an Intel P4 processor and the new one is an AMD.
You will need to uninstall older Intel chipset drivers and now
install the newer one for the AMD. It seem that there is a driver
conflict.
