*XP Pro OS language in registry*

K

Kumaran

Dear users,
I'm using XP professional English edition. I would like to install a
T-Online DSL Software, which is in German. When I run the T-online SW setup
it says, The Operating system language is not German, so the setup will
close now.

Would it be possible for me to change the OS language temprorily some where
(like..registry )just for installation, afterwards I can revert back...

Experts please help me...

Thanks
Kumaran

Hi,

No, you can't switch the base OS language simply. All you can do is install
support for other languages, I do not think this will be sufficient for what
the software is looking for. Changing the OS language requires a clean
installation with a version of WinXP in the preferred language (other than
using the MUI in corporate machines).

Dear Rick,

Thanks for your reply....

I peeped into the DSL SW setup program by using a binary editor. It calls an
installschield API *GetOSLanguage* . This must be reading the OS language
from *some location*.

If I could change the language at this location, just to feed that API...I
would be able to proceed the installation...then I can revert back. Only the
setup program looks for OS language but not the installed program....

Please help me if you know about that *some location* where the OS language
information is stored.

Regards

Kumaran

Hi,

It'll likely be in a .dll, but I do not know which one. However, be aware
that the setup may also replace some system files with German language
versions. Might not be a problem now, but......
