I have been using XP Pro on lap top for the last two
years. Now I need to buy another laptop. It seems that
the all come with XP Home.
I generally have 2 or three database server engines
running on my laptop, (SQL Server, Sybase and/or Oracle
personal.) The machine occasionaly has to act as a
server on my home office network. My Questions:
-Can I get away with XP Home under these conditions?
-How esay is it to upgrade XP Home to XP Pro?
-Or... Should I insist on a laptop that comes with XP Pro
installed and checked out for the system?

Although the upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro is probably the most successful
upgrade of all, I would suggest ordering the laptop with Pro from the
manufacturer. You will save money, and you will have the option for OEM
support if you need it. If you upgrade the Home version, you will lose your
factory support. Laptops also have more proprietary hardware and software
than desktops and usually you will lose some laptop features when you
upgrade.
