XP Pro internal anti-virus process (AVSvc.exe)

My CPU is performance in Task Manager is constantly running between 50 & 100%
of capacity. In checking Processes Running, I find AVSvc.exe is causing
this. I have Norton Firewall/Anti-virus, I have shut off Windows Firewall
and this process continues to consume my CPU, slowing everything down to a
crawl. I can turn this process off, and have done so, but as soon as I
reboot it's back eating away at my system performance. I would appreciate
any help. Thanks RonR
