XP Pro Install

I found out my preinstalled XP Pro is a pirate copy. I purchased XP Pro
upgrade retail version .Can I install over the existing version without
losing my other software and settings? I have a registered copy of Win 98 SE
as a qualifier.

Yes, perform a Repair Installation:

Since Windows XP is upgrade, you will need to insert the Windows 98 CD for a
few minutes so keep it handy.
