XP Pro, Icon created on Desktop, cannot remove

I recently created an icon which was more like a web page. I can shrink it
small enough to be inobtrusive, but all attempts to delete it have failed.
Anyone know how to rid my desktop of this thing?

When you say you can't delete the icon, do you mean you don't have
permission to delete it? If that is the case, try this:

The Desktop contains icons from both the following locations:

%allusersprofile%\desktop
and
%userprofile%\desktop

2nd location is per-user specific and you'll have write access usually.
