Xp Pro Hangs Loading Drivers afet Memory Upgrade.

I recently added 512M of Mem to a Dual Pentium III Box
which already had 512M of Mem. I have been running XP Pro
with 512M of memory and needed the extra Mem. After
installing the memory the box rebooted fine and I didn't
have any problems. I then decided to cold start the box
and now it starts loading the drivers(gets to mup.sys )
and then just hangs without any indication of a problem.
I've run repair and since it can't load the drivers it
never does the repair. I can get into the recovery console
but I don't have enough background on Xp to know what to
do next. I've run chkdsk on the boot drive in the recovery
console and it encountered 1 error. Any help would be
appreciated. I've had to format the drive once before
because I couldn't get updates and that was a trip having
to reactivate the XP Pro License.

Does the pc work if you take the old 512 out and put the new in?
Does it work if you revert back to the original 512?
See this info about memory diagnostics.

I've taken out all the memory and cold booted with the
original and the same problem exits. No matter what I do
now the machine hangs at the loading of the driver
MUP.SYS. I'll check out the URL you posted Dave. Thanks.

Dave,

Downloaded the mem diag test util and created a floppy as
per the instructions and the boot from the floppy started
to load and then I got an I/O Error on the floppy. I tried
three different floppies same issue. I also created the
floppies on different systems...

Created a XP startup floppy and added the mem diag tool
and the util tested all the memory with 11 different
tests. Everything came back fine. So now I'm trying to
locate a util which will investigate the components
attached to the motherboard and the motherboard itself. If
anyone knows of such a tool for a EPOX EP-D3VA(Dual PIII)
with VIA CHipsets let me know.
