XP Pro Group Policy

Hi,

I have just noticed that for some reason I cannot turn on my firewall.

It tells me it is controlled by Group Policy.

I am the only one on this box and Admin and am now not sure what I did
to allow this.

Can I get some help please to turn the Firewall on.

I have Anti Virus programs so maybe they are doing this?

Thanks

What 'antivirus solution' do you have? Some 'all-in-one' types take over
the functionality of the firewall as well.

In any case - we'd need to know the exact OS (version/edition/service pack
level) and what software you have installed that might be subbing in for
your Windows XP Firewall.

No - "Windows XP" is not the complete story of your OS.

Windows XP ________ Edition with Service Pack _ would be better.

Windows XP ________ Edition Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp__gdr.______-____
: Service Pack _) __-bit architecture with Internet Explorer Version
_._.____._____ would be fantastic!

You can obtain and supply the edition and version information:

Start button --> RUN
(no "RUN"? Press the "Windows Key" + R on your keyboard)
--> type in:
winver
--> Click OK.

The picture at the top of the window that opens will give you the general
(Operating System name and edition) while the line starting with the word
"version" will give you the rest of the story. Post _both_ in response
to this message verbatim. No paraphrasing - instead - ensure
character-for-character copying.

What version of Internet Explorer are you currently using? Easy to find
out. Open Internet Explorer and while that is in-focus, press and hold
the "ALT" key on your keyboard. With the "ALT" key still pressed, press
(just once, no holding) the "H" key. Now, with the "ALT" key still
pressed, press (just once, no holding) the "A" key. That will bring up
the "About Internet Explorer" window. It will give you the exact version
you are using - repeat what you see there in response to this message.

Do you mean you are can't click the On button to enable the firewall
or do you see a message at the top if the Windows Firewall applet that
reads:

For your security, some settings are controlled by Group Policy

....or is is something else, both, neither?.

To eliminate questions and guessing, please provide additional
information about your system.

No typing = no mistakes:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select
All, Copy and then paste the information back here.

There will be some personal information (like System Name and User
Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just
delete it from the pasted information.

Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining
issues:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.
