XP Pro freexing on installation

Re my previous - as XP pro freezes on installation just as it says 'start-up
is loading windows' I can't get as far as formatting the hard-drive - what
would happen if I went into My Computer, right-clicked the C drive icon and
clicked format - would it work, or would I be left with a box of junk?

You cannot format the C: drive while in Windows. That would be like
asking it to commit suicide which it won't. You could format the drive
using a Win98Se bootdisk. Go here www.bootdisk.com and download and create
a super bootdisk
Then go into the Bios and make sure your floppy drive is selected as
first boot device. Insert the created disk and when you
get to the A:\ type format C: Just follow the instructions. A:\format
C: is the correct syntax.
