XP pro error 1635 missing data?

I am getting error 1635 when trying to open office xp files. I have already
researched the error and got

I have backed up the registry and was ready to do the registry edit and then
remove, reinstall, remove, reinstall plus! for Wxp.

Prior to doing the regedit, I looked to see where the Plus! was and can not
even find it.

Questions:
1-Should I do the reg edit at all when I do not even know if/where plus is
on my machine?

2-Will this process of reg edit make it so that my office xp pro apps will
load?

3-Why are some of my directories with the files from my office app's looking
empty?

It would probably be best if you posted to an office newsgroup. Here is a
list of MS public newsgroups. Make sure you list what version of office it
is.
