XP Pro doesn't like 2000 domain

tech support

we recently recieved alot of new Dells with Windows XP Pro
on them. they have been a major pain. here's the deal: we
join our domain fine. restart. at the logon screen, go to
select which domain and it says "Please Wait. Building
domain list." it 'finishes' and we select a domain and it
says "Please Wait. Building domain list." again. so we
wait 3-5 minutes for that to finish. now here's the tricky
part. we type in our administrative account name and
password for our account on the network and it stays
at "Loading your personal settings..." for over a half an
hour. usually by then we reset the machine and fiddle with
it which hasn't helped a whole lot. we have all our IP and
DNS settings correct and not one of the Windows 2000
computers on our network has a problem like this. only the
XP machines. can anyone help us?

Ensure that you have good DNS name resolution in your environment.
All Windows XP clients should point to an internal DNS server that is
authoritative for the domain.

If that is OK, then you might want to enable UserEnv logging
and take a network trace to see where the delay is:

thanks for the reply, but that didn't solve our problem.
we'll continue looking around the net.
