XP Pro Crashes when I try to connect HP Officejet V40xi

AMD based PC with 1.5G memory and LOTS of mass storage
XP Pro with SP2 and all updates as of 01/28/07.
HP 7550 installed and working properly
IOmega USB drive removed and drivers uninstalled

HP Officejet V40xi formerly worked fine in November, 2006. Works fine
self standing

HP Officejet V40xi drivers uninstalled and removed then reinstalled.

I just do not understand this one. I cannot use HP diagnostics as I
get the blue screen of death if I plug the USB cable into the printer
or try to boot the PC with the cable connected. PC runs with drivers
until the printer is attached. Please, Any ideas?

I think it may be because of incompatibility drivers of HP with XP.
You have to wait for a new driver until this problem is fixed.

it must be from a recent XP auto update. Everything was fine for over
a year. First MS blamed it on an iomega driver. I patched it and the
problem continues. finally, I uninstalled the iomega driver. that too
made no difference.

Then perhaps roll back/remove the updates till you identify the one that's
causing the problem. Turn automatic updates OFF and in Windows Update tell
it to not offer to install that update. If necessary, you can then turn
auto update on again.

And contact HP for their view on the problem. It'll help a lot if you have
identified the update that's caused the problem.

HP is being less than helpful. I will consider the rollback approach
but my concern is still that even if a security patch now crashes the
driver I will be left vulnerable in order to use the printer. XP is
after all a proprietary security flawed Macrosoft product.
