XP Pro boot up

G

Gman-USAF

I have a 3 year old PC with XP Pro. It was operating normally until I tried
to change the configuration setting for Primary IDE Master. Original setting
from HD to Auto.

1. Does not open windows for Login
2. Does not detect HD on system
3. Will not install XP Pro with disk completely
4. Exit with Ctrl+Alt+Delete
5. Now will not open any window, black screen
6. Need to boot up and reset configurations

Will stand by for any helpful suggestions or solutions. Thanks to all for
any help!

Hey, Gman.
Can we assume you changed this configuration setting inside XP, and not in
your BIOS? If you changed the setting in XP and you cannot boot at all, you
have few options. The best chance you have is to load your XP CD in your
primary optical drive and attempt to boot off the CD, then try to find an
option to repair Windows. Sorry, but it's been so long since I used XP that
I don't remember the details and don't have an XP box to look at.

You also might want to post you issue in a Windows XP discussion group for
more and better suggestions (this is a .NET programming group.
Here's a way to find an XP group:

As you appear to be using a web interface, start here:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx

In the tree on the left, first open the English category, then open Windows.
In Windows, find and open the category for Windows XP.
In that category, find a group to post in.
