I am considering using XP Pro as a file server for an office with 8
workstations.

Are there any issues I need to take into consideration??

Thanks

Yes. XP Pro will only allow 10 concurrent connections. That doesn't mean
10 workstations - some workstations will have more than one connection
to the server. You'd be better off with a real server operating system.

If you have more than 8 workstations then you will come across the max
simultaneous connections of 10 for XP Pro. Windows Server has no
limitations. Also, you need to set up all the accounts on the XP Pro
machine for people to have accesst to files.Peter Hutchison

BTW, you cannot use XP Pro for other server features such as domains,
DHCP, DNS, WINS etc.
Other than that you will be fine.
