Hi,
I have windows xp pro (and a tv tuner), and I was wondering if it is
possible for me to view and record tv programs without changing to Media
Center Edition?

So long as you have the inputs on the video card its easy to do,go to windows
media home page, downloads, from the player, scroll to WM encoder 9 series,
download, then click on the encoder text,at the encoder home page, download,
the authoriting utilities-all,then codec installation pkg.A great utility
is the WMCap
it lets you preview the video. Also XPs movie-maker lets you edit, basically
all
one needs are the drivers for the card, windows media has alot of great
software.

Most TV Tuner cards or USB devices come with the needed software to
record programs off air

Why go to all this trouble? Since the OP has a TV card in his system,
it already has the necessary hookups for the cable. The card also
comes with all the necessary softward to do the job as well.

That is so much easier than the convoluted instructions you just
provided.
