XP Pro and NOD32

I have to reformat and re-load Win XP Pro in the near future and am
wondering about how well it goes with NOD32. I've been an AVP/KAV user
for quite a few years, and it worked very well when I had 98SE.

However, when I set it up on XP, it proved to be a resource hog and
drove me nuts until I pinned down the cause. I have gone with AntiVir
in the interim, but it has missed a couple of items which concerns me
(I know not every AV is perfect).

I heard/read good things about NOD32 over the years, but have had no
inclination to investigate as KAV has worked well for me in the past.

Any comments/recommendations?

NOD32 is on all my NT based machines Win 2K and XP PRO doing *Deep Scans*
and doing *Full Scans* scanning all files on the machines. It was taken out
of its default settings. NOD32 has managed to catch one AD Trojan that made
it past me. :)

As far as scanning emails coming from the ISP's POP3 server, IMON has caught
everything.

NOD32 is light on the resources and its scan completion times on the hard
drive are very good.

I don't have any problems with NOD32 on the NT based O/S(s).

NOD32 is so good I paid for it. Don;t get me wrong, I don't pirate
software but I try to go for Opensource/GPL stuff as much as possible.

Resources NOD32 is using on my machine currently just over 4,400K
according to Task Manager.

I can't help, with which AV is better under XP, but before you do the reinstall,
make sure you check out http://isc.sans.org/presentations/xpsurvivalguide.pdf

Tnx for the tip Dave. I already have this doc and I have done an XP
re-install in the past. Good reading for anyone else considering
installing XP, especially if it's the first time. We got hit with the
blaster worm within 15 seconds of connecting to the net on an
unprotected XP machine )

Thanks to koorb, Conor and yourself for your comments. It more or less
confirmed my thinking.)

I've used a Mailwasher/AV combo which has served me well. All of the
various worms are flagged by MW (Swen comes to mind as an example),
and I had one which slipped passed which was knocked on the head by
KAV.

That's what I was interested in. I couldn't believe how heavy KAV was
on resources compared to how light it was with 98SE.
