XP Pro and FrontPage 2002 install

After searching and reading previous threads on installing FP 2002 on XP
Pro, I still am confuse about some issues and one which I have not found an
answer. In short, I am updating my computer to XP Professional (clean
install). I will be installing FP 2002 (as well as Office 2002/XP). Having
used the PWS before, I would also like to install IIS in order to test my
webs prior to publishing as well as a learning platform.

Questions:
1. Is it best to install IIS prior to installing FP 2002?
2. Will IIS or FP2002 install the correct FP extensions or do I need to do
that separately?
3. What is the best way to secure IIS from outside sources? Should ICF
(Internet Connection Firewall) be turned on or off or configured a
particular way to allow me to use FP to work on my local webs as well as
publish to my remote webs? (I am currently using ZoneAlarm with no problems
in this regard, but have not decided to install on my new system).
4. Any other caveats on configuring FP2002 with XP Pro/IIS/ICF?

By default, the install of IIS will install the FP2000 extensions, but they
are not applied to the default web site created, this has to be done under
the Admin Tools | IIS MMC.

3. What is the best way to secure IIS from outside sources? Should ICF
(Internet Connection Firewall) be turned on or off or configured a
particular way to allow me to use FP to work on my local webs as well as
publish to my remote webs? (I am currently using ZoneAlarm with no problems
in this regard, but have not decided to install on my new system).

I use a Linksys router to keep my server from being seen from outside my
LAN. I don't use any firewall applications.

1) Yes, for best results.
2) When you install IIS, you will be given the option to install the
extensions. This option will be for the FP 2000 extensions. Then, you will
use the IIS Mangement Console to configure the extensions to the web site.

If you'd rather use the FP 2002 extensions, do not install the FP 2000
extensions. Instead, go to the MS web site and download and install those..
Note, they operate differently than FP2000 extensions.

3) At the very least, use the UCF.

Make sure you have all patches and updates applied for Windows, IIS and the
FP server extensions.

Then, study up on IIS. There are newsgroups, as well as KB articles.

Doesn't matter.

2. Will IIS or FP2002 install the correct FP extensions or do I need to do

It's best to install the extensions separately, so you get the newest
version. To get the newest version, browse:

I'm not very expert in ICF, but anything that blocks outside requests to
port 80 should do the job. This could be an NAT box, ICF, or IIS itself.

4. Any other caveats on configuring FP2002 with XP Pro/IIS/ICF?

Use the FPSE administrtion Web pages to maintain permissions and other
settings relevant to FrontPage Webs. If you go in directly from IIS Manager
or NTFS security dialogs, you're not likely to produce what FrontPage wants.
