I qualify for an academic upgrade (from Win2000). Is there any reason
to purchase the regular XP Pro upgrade as opposed to the standard
upgrade? Does the academic one lack anything that the other has?

Thanks,
Ken K

They are identical except for the license. The only disadvantage
of the academic version is that your license to use it expires
when your qualification to use it does. So if, for example, you
are graduating soon, you might prefer to buy a retail version.

I am faculty, so hopefully that won't be an issue. And, were I a
student, how would they know when I graduated????

They don't necessarily know. It's on the honor system.

The only difference is in the licensing. The system as installed is the
same. An Upgrade requires that you can show it a previous 'qualifying'
system, like Win98 or NT or your 2000 ; the academic license restricts
you from selling it on or transferring it and expires when you finish
your course

Ken, gather more information about licensing on your own, and don't
necessarily follow the "rules" told to you here about licensing. Educate
yourself and make your own choice. Below link is a good place to start:

Windows XP crashed.
I am the Blue Screen of Death.
No one hears your screams.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.
