Windows XP Academic version

Does anyone know if there is any difference in the
standard XP upgrade version and the Academic upgrade
version other than price? I did find that they have two
different part numbers, E85-00146 Acadamic version and E85-
01012 for the standard upgarde.

Academic Versions of Windows XP are:

--- For noncommercial, educational use only.
--- For qualified educational users only.
--- Non-upgradeable to the next Windows O/S.
--- Non-transferable.
--- Has installation support only.
--- Has a non-perpetual license that is tied to the eligibility of the
user.
(If a user is no longer a student or educator, the license is no
longer valid)

Your right to use the Academic version of Windows XP ends when
you no longer meet the criteria for using the Academic version of XP.

Other than the above limitations, Windows XP Upgrade is the same.

No difference in the way they work, only the licensing. If you have
an opportunity to purchase the academic upgrade and can do so legally,
go for it.

Once the system is installed - none. It is just a matter of the Setup,
checking Product Key from a different series, and offering a rather
different EULA to agree to. The academic one is licensed only to the
machine where installed, for the time you remain qualified for an
Academic license (though it is not going to be able to detect say your
graduating and stop working as a present)
