XP printer mapping via Remote Desktop Connection?

Hello!

I am posting this to the TS newsgroup and the XP newsgroup, since it relates
to both. Sort of.

Is there a way to map printers in XP as there is in a 200x terminal server,
i.e, using a custom printer INF file (ntprintsubs.inf on a TS)?

I have a remote user (XP Pro) who accesses her work XP Pro desktop via
Remote Desktop Connection. She has an HP OfficeJet 6110 attached to her work
computer, and an HP PSC 2510 all-in-one printer at home. The 2510 will not
map when she connects via RDC. The Event Viewer pops an ID 1111 each time
she connects, stating that the "Driver hp psc 2500 series...is unknown."

I downloaded the drivers and tried to install a new printer, i.e., her
remote HP 2510 all-in-one printer, onto her work computer. I tried it on
LPT1, DOT4, and USB. Each time, I get to the Install Printer Software dialog
box and choose "Have Disk" and then choose the folder in which the drivers
reside, and when I click on the INF that has the 2510 listed in it, it goes
back to the Install Printer Software dialog box, but there are no printers
listed.

So, back to my original question: is there a way to map printers in XP as
there is in terminal server, i.e, using a custom printer INF file
(ntprintsubs.inf on a TS)? That would make life easy.

Thank you for your time!

Well,

When I posted this message, I had already searched the INF files from the
driver download and found which one has the 2510 listed. It is hpoprn08.inf.
I was scrolling through its contents just to see what an INF looks like
inside. I noticed the following section.

[ControlFlags]
ExcludeFromSelect=*

So being the curious guy that I am, I modified that to be:

[ControlFlags]
ExcludeFromSelect=

without the asterisk at the end, then saved the file. Guess what? All the
printers in the INF file were now visible in the Install Printer Software
dialog box! I chose the "hp psc 2500 series" that matched my ID 1111 events,
and it installed without a hitch. I then removed the printer, but left the
driver behind.

We shall see tomorrow if it worked for her to get her remote 2510 printer
mapped, now that the driver is on her work computer.

Update!

Now that I edited the INF file and got the 2510 driver installed on the work
computer, her home computer maps her 2510 printer without incident.
