XP preventing use of firewall

Guest

Recently my pc has lost the ability to run the XP SP2 firewall. I have the
original XP disc that wat installed on my pc. The company I brought it from
has gone out of business so I cannot get back to them
Is it ok to reinstall XP over hte current 'partialy corrupted' version. When
I go to run it I'm told that I have a later version on my pc. I can only
think that is because I have SP2 installed,
Can any one advise me on this please

Geoff,

What happens when you try to enable the Firewall? To enable the Windows
Firewall, make sure that the Windows Firewall service is started, and
enabled in the Firewall control panel applet.

- Click Start, Run and type Services.msc
- Double-click the Windows Firewall service and set it to automatic
- Restart Windows

- Then, click Start, Run and type FIREWALL.CPL
- Configure the Windows Firewall settings accordingly.

About repairing Windows XP installation
============================
(Without knowing the actual problem / error message):

You can repair the Windows XP (with SP2) installation using a Windows XP CD
with the SP2 integration (also called the "slipstreamed" CD).
