my daughter has put a password on her account and I need to see what she has
been up to. she is 16 and starting to get into trouble... PLEASE help

Ask your daughter for the password. If she
refuses, simply delete her User Account and
she'll learn a most valuable lesson.

I guess since she is 16, she is entitled to her privacy. In UK we call
this her human rights!

Where I live it's called "I'm the father and you're the child and as long as
you live under my roof you play by my rules."

Spying is the quickest way to lose her trust. Try asking for the password.
If she refuses, don't allow her to use the computer.

If you have administrative rights to the machine, you don't need the
password to see what she's been up to. Unless there are encrypted
files.

An alternitave is to simply ASK what she's been up to.

What an pea-brained, stupid and irresponsible thing to say ! You're
obviously a candidate for those horrid t.v. shows where the detritis of
society put their sordid life problems on display for the whole country to
see !

From your account if you have admin rights, you should be able to remove her
password from the user accounts section in the control panel.

Then log off and log back in to her account and then you will be able to
view the files.

However a good sit down discussion would probally work better.

Hope this helps

If you have XP Pro, you can do the following.

Reset or remove a user's password.
Prevent the user from resetting or removing the password.
Change the user account type to a limited account (this is necessary if
you want your changes to stick).

If you have XP Home, you can log on as Administrator (with some
difficulty), and change the user account type and password.

If you are a parent, you can also have a conversation with your
daughter, and find out if your concerns are legitimate.

Hello,

If you wish to get past the password there are spacial utils that
allows do it. The one I sued when I was in need of bypassing my lost
password was Password Changer. That worked and reset password for me.
That tool is on a CD image including varous utilities for data erase,
recovery and backup. If you really wish to reset pass, you can use it.
